I read the story of how Godfreys, the Australian vaccum retailer shop is competing with Dyson. Here's our first-hand story of experiencing Godfrey's customer service.
Whenever I decide to buy some thing, I list down our needs first, then go shopping for a product that would fulfill our needs. For the first time, I was obsessed with a brand i.e., Dyson, the vaccum cleaner brand (cordless, light-weight, long stick, 15 minutes non-stop(!) vaccuming). Their marketing department has done a great job promoting it as a tehno-marvel and creates the illusion that it is the best vaccum cleaner ever made in the universe.
As we developed a allergic reaction to dust (only after coming to Australia) from carpets and the cheap vaccum cleaners did not help much, we decided to buy the best powerful vaccum cleaner to clean our house.
We set aside some money over few months and went shopping. We (wife and I) went to a big, white goods shop to buy the Dyson vaccum cleaner. It was about 40 minutes before the Close Of Business time and a sales woman came and asked if she can help. After we told that what we are after a good vaccum cleaner (Dyson), she asked if we are serious about buying a vacuum cleaner in the next 15 minutes as the shop was going to close. Of course, we were going to buy the right Vaccum cleaner instantly, not because, someone wants to close up the shop in the next 15 minutes. We looked at each other, shaking our heads, we walked out of that shop.
We strolled into the nearby shop, Godfreys, the vaccum cleaner specialist shop. For the next 40 minutes, we experienced the good old, friendly, Aussie customer service. The saleswoman asked us what we are looking for, our needs, budget etc and showed us four different models/brands of vacuum cleaners for the next 40 minutes. Before the shop closed at 5 PM, we had bought our next vaccum cleaner. It was a Hoover vaccum cleaner with Power Head.
Having not spent that much money on vaccum cleaners before, we were nervous about its performance. With a money-back warranty to try, we did not hesitate to take it home. Now, after 4 years and 6 months, our Hoover still cleans the carpets with same effectiveness, sucks the fine dust from car floor, lounges and beds. It has no loss of suction and I dont need to power off and on to regain the suction power. We are more than happy with its performance, it performs as it is new (thanks to the sales person).
We go back to Godfreys for getting the bags; no receipts are asked, we can just say our name, they get the replacement bags for our vaccum cleaner model.
Good customer service alone builds a great business. I would want Godfreys to win the battle and serve us for many more years. They are one of the few good, customer-centric Australian companies still left standing.
P.S:- Godfreys is not paying me to write this review; I am just telling how good they serve customers.
